How to rinse and flush your RV's black water holding tank

Mark Polk shows you how to perform some simple rinsing and flushing procedures on an RV's black water holding tank to keep it clean, control odors and extend the life of the RV's waste water system. It also helps helps ensure the holding tank's monitors remain accurate and prevent costly repairs of clogged drains.

  1. This was informative. But we already have a black tank flush. Yet our monitor shows that we are 2/3 full all the time. Any help with that?

    1. We have found that the monitoring system in our RV (and most of our friends agree) is sketchy at best. 2/3's seems to be the magic number. Our fresh water tanks shows full when full, then 2/3's from then on. Same thing with the grey tank. Empty, then 2/3's until it almost backs up in the shower. The black tank will only show empty after we've flushed several times, AND used the 'wand' to do really serious cleanout. Once we take off on a trip, it only takes one flush for the black tank to show full or 2/3's. I guess the answer is to get the feel of how much water you use and how much grey and black you produce. And, I've heard this from folks with mega-thousand dollar motor homes as well.
